Non-Surgical Interventions

Our physicians perform many sophisticated diagnostic procedures, including advanced non-invasive medical imaging studies  such as CT angiography and three-dimensional echocardiography, as well as an array of minimally invasive interventional procedures to diagnose and treat structural heart disease.

Cardiac Catheterization

Currently, our cardiovascular services are supported by the latest equipment and technology in state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratories. This technology enables physicians to visually examine and assess the chambers of the heart and coronary arteries. Each year, more than 6,000 patients benefit from the extensive experience of physicians and support staff who provide cardiac catheterization services.

  • Diagnostic cardiac catheterization , or coronary angiography, is performed to evaluate the number and severity of blockages in arteries that supply blood to the heart in cases of unstable angina, atypical chest pain, aortic stenosis or unexplained heart failure. The results of the tests are used to determine whether intervention or surgery is indicated.
  • Interventional cardiac catheterization procedures include balloon angioplasty, stenting and blood clot removal.

Angioplasty

Our physicians are leaders in angioplasty and related techniques. Under the direction of Dr. Joseph Babb, an international authority on angioplasty and a pioneer of angioplasty techniques in the early 1980s, the cardiovascular program at PCMH developed procedures that combine traditional angioplasty with minimally invasive approaches to treatment.
