Stents

Our cardiovascular team employs an array of stents to open narrowed arteries, allowing patients to avoid major surgery for treatment of coronary artery disease. These skilled physicians perform more than 2,100 stenting procedures per year, often used in conjunction with thrombolytic drugs and other procedures to treat heart disease.

Drug Eluting Stents

Restenosis, or re-blockage of blood vessels, is one of the biggest limitations of angioplasty and one of the most frequent causes for repeat procedures. When combined with aspirin and other anti-clotting medications, the drug-eluting stent has been successful in reducing vascular reclosure from 20-30 percent to single digits.

Endovascular Stent

Vidant Medical Center leads the state of North Carolina in endovascular aneurysm repair, a technique for treating problems in the heart or the blood vessels from within the vessels themselves. The procedure requires only small incisions in the groin, through which a wire and catheter are guided to the weakened or blocked area of the blood vessel.
